Desktop Notifications is the tool I’ve chosen for this task.

• Desktop Notifications
  originated as a part of a research project at the University of Stuttgart (Germany). It is light and efficient, and best of all, works perfectly and efficiently. Get an accompanying Chrome extension here.

• MightyText was my favorite.
  It has evolved a lot and now supports both notifications and SMS messages; even phone dialing works. The problem was it simply didn’t work efficient enough as notifications were really late or never shown on desktop.
