• DNS Inspect has IPv6 support, the great interface and best scoring system, so this is my new favorite.

• Zonemaster has IPv6 and is quite comprehensive (ex: http://dnscheck.sidn.nl/). Only the UI is little “strange”.

• intoDNS still doesn’t have IPv6 support

• DNSsy was quite good, but has no IPv6 support

• IntoDNS.in is Indian, supports IPv6 and has cute UI, but it doesn’t really work

• SolveDNS

• howismydns.com has no IPv6

• dnscolos is really ugly and it is really, really slow

• DNSCheck

I was measuring this on WPT site (webpagetest.org):

1and1.com (smestajkoviljaca.com): 84 ms (Prague), X ms (Frankfurt) dns.he.net (ganzohr.ch): 60 ms (Prague), 56 ms (Frankfurt)

So usually it’s ok.

The point is - everything is in caching.

How to speed up DNS resolution:

• Use a DNS service that uses Anycast for their servers
• Make sure the DNS provider has servers distributed globally (and that perform well)
• Try to avoid long CNAME chains (try to avoid them at all if possible)
• Use a long Time To Live (TTL) on your records so they can be cached by the ISPs and users
